Brian Lawrence Wildsmith was a British painter and children's book illustrator. He was the award-winning illustrator of more than 80 children's picture books, whose explosive use of colour made them immediately recognisable to young readers all over the world.  In 1962 he won Kate Greenaway Medal for British children's book illustration, for the wordless alphabet book ABC.
