by Samuel Y. Marshak
Did you know that the first rhymes of Soviet kids were English songs in the translation of children’s poet Samuil Marshak ?
The collections of small rhymes by Samuil Marshak, including “Kids in a Cage” first saw light in 1923 and generations of Russians grew up with these rhymes without having the slightest idea of their non-Russian origin.
This book "Kids in Cage" is a beautifully illustrated collections of small rhymes about animals.
Written in short, loosely rhyming verses, this edition will make a good read-aloud book.

Samuil Yakovlevich Marshak (Russian: Самуи́л Я́ковлевич Марша́к; 1887-1964) is a famous Russian and Soviet writer, translator and children's poet. His popularity in Russian children's literature is comparable to that of Milne in Britain or Dr Seuss in the United States; his fairy tales are among the very first literary texts young readers encounter.
