"This is a wonderful book for young children. With fun rhymes, a great pattern for children to join in on (each section ends with, "But Not the Hippopotamus"), Sandra Boynton's famous silly animal illustrations, and a clever ending, this is a board book with the works. Our toddler loves this book and we read it on a regular basis.
The hippopotamus looks on longingly in each scene, wanting to participate, but too scared to. When the hippo does finally take that initiative, there is a reward of "Hurray, the Hippopotamus!" Highly recommended.
